Gum Shield

Each gum shield comes with a carry case and instructions for use.

When taking part in contact sports, wearing a gum shield can help protect against injury to the mouth and jaw. Different sports involve different levels of risk and potential injury therefore it is essential to select a gum shield that will offer you protection, fit comfortably and will stay in place. However, it is important to remember that no gum shield will completely eliminate the risk of injury, but this risk is significantly reduced from not wearing one at all.

Our gum shields come in Junior or Adult sizes.

Fitting your Gum Shield

Place in boiling water for 15-20 seconds

Get out with a spoon and put in cold water for 1 second

Line up central of gum shield with centre of teeth and press firmly against teeth

Bite down firmly on the gum shield and suck your cheeks for 10 seconds

Use fingers to press gum shield against your teeth

Repeat these steps if the appliance is not fitting properly. If necessary use scissors to trim away any excess material.

Caring for your Gum Shield

Keep in mind bacteria and fungi can gradually colonise used gum shields, so it’s important to clean them after taking them out. Brushing with a toothbrush, along the gum shield with toothpaste cleans it effectively. Or you can rinse them with an anti-microbial solution.

Popping in a gum shield before playing sports is the most effective way of protecting braces while enjoying healthy exercise.
